LOREN J. GONZALEZ APPOINTED TO CITY OF LOS ANGELES
QUALITY AND PRODUCTIVITY COMMISSION
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 28, 2004 — Loren J. Gonzalez, principal of The Monarch Agency, a public relations and advocacy agency, was recently appointed to the Quality and Productivity Commission for the City of Los Angeles.
Gonzalez, whose appointment came at the recommendation of Los Angeles City Councilmember Dennis Zine, was confirmed by the Los Angeles City Council on December 17, 2003.
The Quality and Productivity Commission was established by the City of Los Angeles to improve the responsiveness, efficiency, and quality of services delivered to the public. Specifically, the Commission partners with City of Los Angeles departments and bureaus to facilitate program development, to augment and expand high-value programs, and to encourage and enable teams to deliver unmatched levels of customer service. The Commission consists of 15 members, all nominated by a Los Angeles City Councilmember or the Mayor.
Gonzalez also currently serves as Vice President of Public Policy for the National Association of Women Business Owners, Los Angeles Chapter (NAWBO-LA).

FOR NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS LOS ANGELES CHAPTER
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15, 2003 — Loren Gonzalez has been elected as the new Vice President of Public Policy for the National Association of Women Business Owners, Los Angeles Chapter (NAWBO-LA). Ms. Gonzalez is currently Principal of The Monarch Agency, a public relations and advocacy agency.
The installation reception took place on Tuesday, October 14th at The Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Los Angeles. Alex Padilla, President of the Los Angeles City Council served as presiding officer.
In her role, Ms. Gonzalez will lead the NAWBO-LA effort in influencing public policy to increase support of women business owners. Her role will also involve educating NAWBO-LA members on current pubic policy issues that have an effect on small businesses.
The impact of women business owners has grown tremendously over the years. As of 2002, there are an estimated 213,759 majority-owned, privately-held women-owned firms in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area, accounting for 28% of all privately-held firms in the metropolitan area. Women-owned firms in Los Angeles-Long Beach employ almost 364,000 people and generate nearly $52.2 billion in sales.
NAWBO-LA, a 501c6 non-profit, has grown into an increasingly influential organization and played an active role in public policy development, serving to reinforce the economic power and potential of women business owners. It is one of the largest, most dynamic chapters in the country, with nearly 500 current members. Corporate sponsors include Honda, WellPoint, Edison, Union Bank of California, and Sempra Energy.
